His best and most known work, " Sandokan, The Tiger of Malaysia " has been proven to bear resemblance to true historical facts, starting with the firstly-thought-of-as-fictional island, Mompracem (currently known as Kuraman Island), and with the strong impression that Sandokan is no other than a fictional representation of Syarif Osman, who ruled Marudu (north of Borneo) (I recommend you go  here  for more information about Sandokan or Syarif Osman.
