Davide Van De Sfroos - Yanez (Lyrics' English Translation)

A song that the artist made in honour of his father, who was a fan of Captain Salgari's works. The lyrics are from here (09.12.2025), where in the video you can see the lyrics in the original Comasco dialect and in the description there's the Italian translation. Here (09.12.2025) you can see the Italian translation of the lyrics in real time.

Note: The author sings in Comasco dialect, which is spoken in the Lake Como area.

The tide rises up and falls down as it takes back its waste

A bucket and a slipper, a can of Red Bull

Sandokan with a mojito in hand, a ticket with an invitation

Sandokan, whom has learned to maneuver flip-flops

e la gente che và al mare solo per dire che c'è stata

And the people that go to the seaside just to say that they have done that

che col gettone della sala giochi

That with a token for the arcade

il cavallo muove un filo il culo

Have the horse move its butt just a little

odore di frittura di pesce e di pizza d'asporto

Scent of fish-fry and take-away pizza

Kamammuri è da sessant'anni che sta

It's been sixty years since Kammamuri has been on

sul dondolo della pensione...

On the rocking chair of retirement

Yanez di Gomera ti ricordi com'era?

Do you remember how things used to be like, Yanez de Gomera?

Now he's got a bike and a vuvuzela and even Tremal Naik has a Suzuki...

Yanez di Gomera ti ricordi di James Brook?

Yanez de Gomera, do you remember James Brook?

Gioca a carte giù al Bagno Riviera

He's now playing cards down at Bagno Riviera*

e hanno detto che è sempre ciuco

And they say that he's always drunk

Appetizers, musky octopuses, and a four-coloured soda

Tanned, tattooed are the pirates that come from Varese**

la pantera, gonna nera, canottiera, cameriera

The panther, the black skirt, camisole, waitress,

muove il culo anche senza i gettoni

No token needed for her tush to move

ma è soltanto per cambiarti il bicchiere

But it's just to fill up your glass again

Sandokan sulla spiaggia col costume della Billabong***

Sandokan, on the beach, with the bathing suit from Billabong

ha l'artrite e ha il riporto,

He's got arthritis and a comb over

parte per Mompracem col pedalò

With a paddle boat he leaves for Mompracem

e i Dayaki con appresso la Gazzetta****

And the Dayaks with the newspaper in hand

non hanno tempo per tagliarti la testa

Have no time to cut off your head

They leave their sword under the beach ombrella, causing more damages with an Iphone

Yanez di Gomera l'hai venduta l'altra sera?

Yanez de Gomera, did you see her the other night?

più che la Perla di Labuan,

Rather than the Pearl of Labuan

Marianna ora sembra un sasso...

Marianna now seems more like a stone

Yanez di Gomera raccontaci ancora com'era...

Yanez de Gomera, tell us one more time what was she like...

I noticed that she had her chest fixed*****, but that she couldn't fix her heart

The mermaid is pissed off because she can't play soccer

polenta e cuba libre per i granchi in processione

Polenta and Cuba libre for the crabs that are doing a parade

Happy Hour is starting, the tiger of Malaysia

finisce all'osteria col riso in bianco e la magnesia

Ends up at the tavern with plain rice and magnesia

ustionati, pirati senza protezione,

Sunburned, pirates without sun protection,

Wearing-Ray Ban Barracudas that play ping pong

Sandokan che urla dentro in pizzeria...

Sandokan, whom is shouting inside the pizza place

urla e canta Romagna Mia...

Shouts and sings Romagna Mia******...

Yanez di Gomera ti ricordi com'era?

Do you remember how things used to be like, Yanez de Gomera?

Now a bike and a vuvuzela and even Tremal Naik has a Suzuki...

Yanez de Gomera, do you remember colonel Fitzgerald?

I saw him on the bus to Rimini so he could go watch the dolphins.
